Stump Farm 100 Recap

Well again it was a long weekend. Did as I did two weeks earlier as far as travel arrangements. Left Madison at 4 a.m. to arrive in Green Bay at 6:30. Got set up quickly in a rainy mess and no true place to set up my camp, had to clear brush in order to set up my camp. Went to work getting the bike ready, pre-race meeting still getting my stuff in order and then it was on before I knew it.

Race started with a run through the swamp as I named it after going through deep mud holes and a sloppy mess. Got a good start and was sitting 3rd wheel when we entered the single track. Held that position for majority of first lap until a 2nd single speed went roaring by me. This would be the start of a long chase down.

I was moving pretty good posting 41-43 minute laps in my first 60 miles or 6 laps. Lap time went up a little bit from there to about 47 minutes for the next 3 laps and returned to 43 for the finish lap.

Overall I settled into a rhythm. I was very comfortable on the single track cooking by almost everyone that I met. Got passed but a few times on the single track, the double track was another question. The course was about 3/4 single track and 1/4 double track. I held my own on the double track but this would become frustrating part of my day passing many on the single track and getting caught on the double track. Oh well, life of a single speeder.

Now back to the race, after the first lap I felt that I was in for a 2nd place finish. The single speeder that passed me was really moving. Had a good quick cadence to him and was pushing only 1 tooth lower than me. I tried my best to just keep my pace high and keep my pits down to minimum. I kept my pits at around 10 seconds other than one in which I had to throw 10 psi in my rear tire.

With 30 miles to go, 3 laps, I had a heck of surprise! I had caught the other single speeder. Little did I know he had bonked. He was out and all I had left was 3 laps to get the win. I kept the pace consistent and then on the last lap upped the pace to get the win. 7:20 for 100 miles, not a bad days work. Collected my winnings (Pint Glass,T-shirt,and cash), packed up camp and was on the road to my vacation week in Door County by 5 p.m. Great time at the race. Course flowed great and was very happy with the overall race setup and running. Will definitely go back to this race. That is about all for the race. Lap Times follow. OUT!!
