Well the race was definately an interesting one. As I drove to Fort Dodge today, the wind was howling at about 35 mph sustained all the way there out of the NW. I thought for sure it was going to be hell on earth riding. Well it was, but for other reasons. Today's race was about a 20 mile gravel/paved race. It was basically completely flat with some rollers thrown in every once and a while. I was the only person that dared to race the course single and was in the completely wrong gear (32x16). Everyone else had gears and one cyclocross bike. The course started west of Fort Dodge quite a ways and we wound our way back to the Amigos Bar and Grill over about a 18.9 mile course. I hung on for about the first 15 miles spinning as best I could with the gearing and then the flat road, wind at our back the whole way finally got to me. I had spun as fast as I could and just had to push the best I could to the finish and hold on to 4th overall. Ended up 4th out of the 6 in around 1:14 . Not to bad of a race, definately will come back and be geared properly next time (42x16). That should prove to work out great. The next race is in Fort Dodge and is a Duatholon somewhere around the Amigos Bar. Well great race. Had Fun. Look forward to the season ahead. OUT
