Oh the SNOW and WALKING!!!!

Well the Triple D race didn't quite go as well as everyone was hoping for. It was an interesting race to say the least. The day started off by waking up to 5-7 inches of fresh snow on the ground as I looked out the window up on the hill in Dubuque. The group from Decorah was there in strong forces with Shockey, Scotty, Spinner, and Sov all daring the race course. When we took off from the Grand Harbor, we knew this race was going to be fun as people started to dab less than 10 feet into the race as we hit a very snowy corner. The trail out of Dubuque that was paved was a blast. Nothing like looking down and seeing the virgin white snow in front of you. We were able to ride straight out of Dubuque and into Asbury without a problem. Funny seeing a pace line of Mt. Bikers just in order to stay in somebody elses tracks. When we got to the end of the paved trail that is where the fun really started. Ended up getting onto the snowmobile trails at this point. Started these trails off with a wipe out as we went straight down a steep dropoff. From there is was walking time. And we walked and walked and walked pushing our bikes. Who can walk the farthest is what the race turned into or who wants to. I didn't mind walking the bike, I signed up for the race knowing anything was possible and didn't mind the walk. Had some fun parts as we made our way to Heritage Trail, watching Shockey destroy himself down a hill on the snowmobile trails and then myself getting messed up on the Completly Ice covered Level B downhill. Oh was that fun, sliding 0n my butt for have of the mile long downhill. When we got to Heritage Trail, we figured out that things just weren't going to get better. 1 snowmobile had been on the trail and it was nothing but ice underneath. Start the pushing. Started the Heritage Trail in 14th to 15th place. Less than a mile later I was in the lead after almost everyone in front of me missed a detour and I ended up riding a gravel road as I looked at them to my left pushing on the trail. Once I reentered the trail, I never rode my bike again. Ended up pushing for another 10-12 miles on the Heritage trail and finally met up with about 6 others as we decided to find the nearest road. Figured we had rode for about 7 miles and pushed for 16 miles and decided we didn't want to walk a marathon just to get to Dyersville. That is where the fun began. Started drinking in the middle of a gravel road with our numerous flaskes that were located on our bikes, 4 in all, and then never stopped drinking for the next 10 hours. Had a blast with the others that decided to suffer the race course. I will return to this race for sure because I liked the challenge. Great race Lance, keep putting it on! Where I finished to come! That is all! OUT
