Icy Roads in NE Iowa

Yesterday- Mid to Upper 40's with a light rain
Today- Upper 20's with freezing rain
What to do????
Let's go for a 3 1/2 hour gravel ride on some of the most treacherous roads I have seen in a while. Shockey and I braved the ice and snow covered gravels around Decorah and managed to get to Bluffton and back. Started the ride by riding, better yet, sliding up Quarry Hill. Looped our way out parts of Wonder Left to Bluffton. On the way back the roads cleared a bit and we were able to put a little speed and normal riding in before getting back to the ice covered roads closer to Decorah. Shockey and I both fell about 5 times each, Shockey taking some harder falls than I. Although words tell a great story, pics speak louder than words. Let the pictures talk:

A look up Quarry Hill (Yeah that is alot of ice!!!)

Though it might get better once we got to the top of Quarry Hill, think again!

The ice that plagued our ride the entire day. Looks good, but is oh so bad!

The aftermath shown on Mr. RIG

That is frozen gravel gunk, not soft. Chipped right off the bike.

Pretty thick huh!

All in all it was a great ride. I had more fun on this ride than you may think. It was a blast to get on the bike and ride when nobody even wanted to drive. Got to love the bike to go out in this stuff. I do!!!! That is all for now. OUT!
