Snowy Roads in NE Iowa
Great to finally be in Decorah for a long period of time. Hoping to spend at least a week up here in Decorah, may turn into alot longer though. Got into town about 3 o'clock yesterday and was on the bike in less than an hour. While I was down at the shop (Decorah Bicycles) waiting to wax up my downhill ski's got a phone call from Shockey who happened to see my car there as he rode by up to Luther. Went on a 1 1/2 hour ride on the snow covered gravels of NE Iowa. It was an amazing ride through the hills. Went up Quarry Hill and out Whitetail Road, then I got a little turned around, did a big figure 8 and ended up coming down the same road that we left on. I really need to get back here to collect my bearings again. Got to test out some of the gear that I plan to use for Triple D in Dubuque in 2 weeks. found out that the clothing I wore was perfect for the temp, about 5 to -5 by the end of the ride. The only part of my body that suffered were about 3 toes toward the end of the ride and my left hand. If you can't hack it don't ride, so I dealt with it. About froze off one of my appendages on a Whitetail Road downhill and Quarry Hill downhill. I can't explain what it is like to be on the gravels looking over a 10 mile view of snow covered NE Iowa hill country. Great start to break hopefully it means good things to come. Check back later for more break. Out!
